The underworld is the home of the dead, and it's also a place for those who have fallen from grace. The underworld features prominently in different religions and mythologies as an abode of the souls of those who die, as well as deities such as Hades, Hellenistic nymphs such as Persephone and Hecate, and other legendary figures. These cultures typically agree that the underworld is a miserable place to reside because those who live there can never see or experience joy. It's not just about death: it's punishment for deeds committed before death. This seems to be the case for the young protagonists in the Underworld series, who become entangled in a war of revenge between vampires and werewolves. The underworld of the first Underworld film is a twilight zone-like place with little to no gravity and domains where gravity is very heavy: examples include "V" -the vampire's underground city-, and the Nordic Coven's territory- where trees are upside down. In this underworld, even time can pass differently: humans may experience only hours for every day that elapses, while one day of activity on Earth might amount to decades of activity below ground. And should humans somehow manage to return to Earth after just a short presence in the underworld, they may find all their friends and family dead and gone. In the first Underworld , Selene is a young woman who's been trained by her father since childhood to fight vampires. She lives with her mother in a rural part of Eastern Europe. One night, she discovers that her family has been murdered by a group of vampires. The only survivor is her younger cousin, David, who's been bitten by one of the vampires. In the process of saving his life from his infection, Selene is bitten herself. When the vampires from the group that destroyed her family come looking for more victims, Selene loses a local battle and is forced to flee with David. The two of them end up in America, where they attempt to live peacefully. Unfortunately, they're followed by a vicious vampire named Kraven who wants to kill Selene for having destroyed his family during her escape from theirs. In the meantime, werewolves have also been alerted about Selene's presence on American soil. The leader of these werewolves, death dealer Andreas Tanis, wants to use Selene as a weapon against his enemy Viktor -the head vampire from the first movie-. He's willing to do anything, even sell his own people to the vampires, to get her. Selene begins to suspect that either Kraven or Tanis are responsible for her family's murder, but she can't know who until she discovers who murdered them... Meanwhile, in the second sequel "", the werewolves have established themselves in Manhattan. They've grown through their numbers and are becoming a major force in human society. Their leader Viktor has hatched a scheme with the help of other artists which entails brainwashing humans so that they can be used as tools against humanity's enemies: vampires and werewolves alike. He also seeks help from Selene for this scheme -- something he didn't expect from her at all. cfa1e77820
